…….Doncaster Rovers, that is!
Sunderland have confirmed that wantaway/misfit midfielder (depending on whose side of the story you believe) Sean Thornton is on the verge of signing for League One side Doncaster Rovers, with the move likely to be completed on Tuesday (July 12th).
Sunderland and Rovers have agreed a £175,000 fee for the services of Thornton, who recently became a father for the first time; and the deal includes substantial sell-on fees for Sunderland should Thornton move again in the future.
Meanwhile Thornton’s agent Lee Payne would have us believe that the Irishman’s move is nothing to do with money, simply a desire for first-team football, hinting that Thornton had turned down far more lucrative offers in favour of moving to Belle Vue.
“He is delighted to move to Doncaster”, Payne told Sky.
