Sunderland will take on Charlton Athletic at the Stadium of Light in the opening game of the 2005-06 Barclays Premiership season.
The provisional fixtures for 2005-06 have been announced, we will play the Addicks on Saturday 13th August.
The lads will then travel to Liverpool to take on the UEFA Champions at Anfield a week later.
Manager Mick McCarthy said: “It’s wonderful to see the fixture list, it’s confirmation that we’re there as it’s all been a bit surreal before now! I’m not daunted by the forthcoming season, far from it, I’m excited by the challenge ahead.
“Naturally, I’m absolutely delighted that we’ll start our campaign at the Stadium of Light, it carries on the euphoria of the end of last season through to the new season – it’ll be great for our fans. We are looking forward to welcoming Charlton, they’re a good, solid Premiership team and will provide us with an entertaining opening fixture.”
Confirmed fixtures should be available in two-three weeks. (Evening fixtures at the Stadium of Light will kick off at 7.45pm).
