As expected, the club today completed the signing of Tommy Miller from Ipswich Town.
The attacking midfielder, who was out of contract after spending four years at Portman Road, has signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light and officially becomes a Sunderland player on 1st July.
SAFC manager Mick McCarthy said: “Tommy was one of the top players in the Championship last year, scoring 15 goals from midfield. He has been chased by a number of clubs, but we’ve got him and we’re delighted. He’s a local lad and the prospect of playing for his home-town club has clearly been the decider for him.”
Shotton Colliery-born Miller scored 15 goals in 39 league and cup appearances last season.
The 26-year-old was originally released by the Portman Road club as a 15 year-old, but returned in July 2001 after being snapped up from Third Division Hartlepool United for £750,000.
He made 160 appearances for Hartlepool, bagging 44 goals and finishing top scorer in 1999-2000 and 2000-01 at Victoria Park.
