Sunderland’s promotion celebrations will be rounded off with a special promotion parade on Monday.
Mick McCarthy and his team will pick up the Championship trophy after their game against Stoke on Sunday.
But that’s not the end of the title celebrations …
It has been revealed that an open-top bus carrying the players and Mick at the promotion parade on Monday, May 9 will make its way down from Sunderland Civic Centre, around Mowbray Park, down Fawcett Street, over Wearmouth Bridge and on to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland Council chief executive Ged Fitzgerald said: “All fingers were firmly crossed hoping Sunderland would tie up their spot at the top of the Championship ahead of their final home game at the Stadium of Light on Sunday 8 May.
“Now fans at the match on ‘Sunderland Sunday’ will be able to relax and enjoy the game, safe in the knowledge that their team has won more silverware and will be playing in the Premiership next season.”
Sunderland chairman Bob Murray added: “Promotion was of course our goal but winning the Championship title is the icing on the cake and something for Sunderland fans and the City as a whole to celebrate together.”
Further details about the parade and how everyone can get involved will be announced shortly.
