Sunderland City Council has confirmed that the players of SAFC’s promotion squad will be able to have a parade to mark the club’s promotion back to the Premiership – on Monday 9th May, the day after the home game against Stoke City.
Details of the route and times have yet to be announced but Fawcett Street will be a key location on the day, as it was for the parade of the side who won the FA Cup in 1973.
Council chief executive Ged Fitzgerald said: “This is excellent news for the club and the city and we’re delighted to congratulate everyone at Sunderland AFC and to celebrate their achievement with this parade.”
Sunderland chairman Bob Murray said: “We are delighted that the city has chosen to honour the club’s achievements and give the team a chance to share it with the most important people – the fans.
“It is a great opportunity for the club and its supporters to celebrate together and I’m sure it will be a great occasion for all concerned.”
