The england squad will fly to America this year to play the national US side at ‘Soldier Field Stadium’ (a 70,000 seater) in a freindly match in Chicago on the 28th of May (a saturday)… before moving on to face the Colombia national team in my back garden at ‘Giants Stadium*’ (80,000 seater), meer minutes away from the center of new York city on the 31st (a tuesday).
If anything people may question the fan-unfreindly mid-week appointment of the first match of the two game tour however both games, especially the east coast match, should attract large crowds; (further strenghtening the claim of mayor bloomber and Governor George Pataki for new York to build a sports and convention center & stadium of its own..despite cable visions somewhat underhand tactics to undermine the construction in order to protect its monopoly on NYC’s only sports center: Maddison Square garden, in a recent turn of events the opposing group itself put a rival bid to turn the land into something other then a stadium.)
(*on a further side note For those not in the know, Giants stadium is the roofless current homes of the JETS and GIANTS NFL teams, and is situated on cheap ground (i.e. swamp) just outside New york state lines over the Hudson River from NYC. Despite both teams being officially titled “the New York…” before their names the Giants famously removed their NY from their helmets in order to attract a more NJ crowd so positioning it seems does matter, even if its just minutes from where you were. It looks like someone blind from birth made a pudding bowl badly out of concrete and then allowed two year old kids to slap advertising stickers all over it. You really do realize the value for money we got with the SOL.)
