Sunderland AFC today thanked supporters who attended the recent FA Cup 3rd Round tie against Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light and contributed to the bucket collection organised by the Club in aid of the South East Asia Disaster Relief Appeal.
Over £4,000 was raised, which will be donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), an amalgamation of major relief agencies including the British Red Cross, Save the Children and Oxfam.
SAFC Marketing and Communications Director Lesley Callaghan said: “Everyone has been deeply move by the disaster in South East Asia and we would like to thank all those supporters who donated to the collection. We are also very grateful to the volunteer collectors who gave up their time on a very cold and windy day to aid this most worthwhile cause.”
The Club would also like to offer special thanks to Grindon Rangers U12 football team who helped with the collection.
SAFC continues to support the relief effort and has donated signed merchandise to many different fund-raising initiatives both locally and nationally. The Club also gave it’s full backing to this week’s UK Radio Aid event, with Black Cats boss Mick McCarthy and the players pledging their support.
