Club confirms reduced Cardiff allocation

January 11, 2005 by rtg

Further to indications given last week, Cardiff City FC have been given a reduced ticket allocation for their league match with Sunderland.

The match, scheduled for 26th February, will see the Bluebirds bring with them a maximum 1,500 supporters – in common with a move also imposed on the supporters of West Ham and Leeds in December.

The decision was taken yesterday (10 Jan) – not by SAFC but by the FA Safety Advisory Group, an independent body made up of representatives from the local authorities – including Northumbria Police, the Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade and the Northumbria Ambulance Service.

The Hammers, Leeds, and now Cardiff were advised as clubs whose supporters persistently stand in seating areas at away grounds.

SAFC Safety Manager, John Davidson, said: “As with the recent games against West Ham and Leeds United where the visitors ticket allocation was reduced, we respect the decision of the Safety Advisory Group and will of course abide by it as the safety of all supporters must be our priority. ”

Failure to control persistent standing could result in the Safety Advisory Group revoking the club’s safety certificate and without this certificate the Stadium of Light could not stage matches.
