Kevin Kyle has received a setback in his recovery from a hip operation, and the club say he will now not get his first-team comeback until January at the earliest.
The striker had an operation to trim cartilege on his hip 10 weeks ago and was hoping to return to action in time for the busy Christmas match schedule, but he’s recently experienced pain.
As a result, he’s scheduled to see surgeon Dr Richard Villar in Cambridge next Thursday (23rd December), and cannot even recommence training until Dr Villar gives him the all-clear and confirms that another operation won’t be needed.
Kyler spoke of the latest setback today, telling the club’s official website, “I really don’t know how long the setback will be until I see the specialist.
“I’ve had a scan but I won’t know what is wrong until I see the doctor on December 23. They might try a steroid injection or he might have to go back in again and clean things up a bit more.
“Everyone’s been asking me when I’ll be back and I haven’t been able to answer because I don’t know the answer myself.
“I just want to get fit and get back in the side.”
Mick McCarthy confirmed, “Kevin’s not close to coming back yet. He is still experiencing pain and it’s something that is going to take longer than we had hoped.”
