Tom Lynn of the now defunct TWR fanzine has asked us to pass on the following statement:
It was a very sad day for me to have to close The Wearside Roar [TWR] down this week and I would like to say thanks for all the good wishes that have appeared on RTG since the announcement.
There were a number of contributory factors, not least the fact that the owner-publishers Rufus Abajas wished to relinquish their most of their role in TWR and put all the onus on to myself to produce it. As a one man band re TWR who just started a Post Grad course at Sunderland Uni five weeks ago I was left in an impossible position, as doing both would have been a physical and logistical impossibility.
I’d just like to say thanks to everyone who has helped with, bought, or contributed to TWR in any way since its inception in 1998. It was a roller coaster of a ride in typical SAFC fashion and it has been so disappointing to witness us falling as quickly as we rose after those two heady seventh placed Premiership finishes that included successive wins over the Skunks. Happy days, but why oh why were they not built on ?
Once again, thanks to everyone who helped make TWR an award winning fans’ mag and good luck to ALS and RTG as continuing and increasingly rare platforms for the genuine fans to express their opinions on.
