Dunfermline Athletic have confirmed the signing of former Sunderland winger Thomas Butler.
The Ballymun-born player had a trial at Wolves recently but has finally agreed to play for the Pars until January 2005, with problems over the requirement for international clearance seemingly having been overcome.
Dunfermline gaffer Davie Hay said today, “He was recommended to us and he came up and trained with us and did well enough to merit a contract – albeit a short-term one.
“The arrangement suited both parties as we are working under financial constraints and it will put him in the shop window.
“If he does well he can sign a longer deal. We know that if he does well there is a chance other clubs will be interested but we see it as an opportunity for both parties.”
Butler is expected to be named in Davie Hay’s squad to face Terry Butcher’s Motherwell this weekend.
