Thomas Myhre will stay between the sticks for Saturday’s game against Championship new boys QPR, as Mart Poom has failed to recover from the back injury which kept him out of Tuesday’s team which beat Crewe.
Kevin Kyle will undergo a late fitness test to see if he has successfully shrugged off a hip injury, as will Gary Breen who has a hamstring problem.
George McCartney is another who will not be selected to face QPR as he’s still recovering from a calf injury, nor will striker Chris Brown who has a groin strain.
Mick McCarthy said “(Breen and Kyle) add strength to the side, where it matters.
“Kyler is now a bedrock of the side. He’s come a long way in the 18 months I’ve been here. He was tremendous against Crewe especially when you consider he’s not had much of a pre-season. But I expected that, he’s a whole-hearted player.
“We’re still having to patch him up, we don’t know how he’s going to be from game to game.”
