Mick McCarthy has completed the signing of young Scots defender Neil Collins, the club has announced.
As we told you on Tuesday, McCarthy confirmed this week that the Dumbarton skipper had been training with the lads, and now he’s been given a two year deal.
Collins, 20, said “I’m delighted to join Sunderland. Dundee United wanted me to stay but once I knew Sunderland were interested I was very keen to come here. I hope to impress the manager and show I can do a good job in the team”
Mick said “He was recommended to us, he came done here and did really well. He’s been part-time in Scotland; he will go full-time now and that will improve him. I expect him to push for the first team.”
