Sunderland sign up Man Utd defender

July 15, 2004 by rtg

Sunderland AFC today completed the transfer of defender Mark Lynch from

Manchester United.

The 22-year-old, who has signed a 3-year deal, has been at Old Trafford

since he was a schoolboy and also spent a loan spell at St. Johnstone in

2001, playing 20 games for the Scottish side.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “Mark is another young player with huge

potential. He has experience of being around top players and has played

at the highest level, having been involved in European games with

Manchester United. He’s a player who has the ability to challenge for a

first team spot and he will be linking up with our other young,

promising, exciting players.”

Mark added: “There was interest from other clubs but I wanted to sign

for Sunderland. It’s a great club, has a good fan base and as soon as I

spoke to Mick McCarthy I was impressed.”
