McAteer move to Foxes collapses

July 6, 2004 by rtg

Jason McAteer’s planned move to Leicester City has fallen through, leaving the Irish international in limbo with plans for the coming season.

As we told you only ten days ago, McAteer had agreed to sign for Mickey Adams on a one year deal, but Leicester confirmed today that the move is off.

McAteer went to Leicester yesterday (Monday) to meet Adams and discuss terms, but the manager said today, “It is disappointing that we have not been able to conclude a deal. Unfortunately there was a last-minute hitch – sometimes these things happen in football.”

McAteer said, “I’m gutted that things haven’t worked out – I was looking forward to helping Leicester try to regain their Premiership status. Unfortunately when it came to some of the details of the contract, we just could not reach an agreement.

“We both thought it was best if we went our separate ways.”
