The club today confirmed they have signed Mansfield Town midfielder Liam Lawrence on a 1-year contract, which will commence 1st July 2004.
The winger, who is out of contract with Mansfield at the end of the month, also has an option in his deal allowing the Club to extend for a further 2-years.
Manager Mick McCarthy said: “We’ve signed a good young player, full of potential. I’m delighted we’ve got him, he scored 22 goals last season which is an impressive achievement, I’m sure he’ll do well for us.”
Lawrence underwent minor knee surgery during the close season and the procedure was a complete success. He is expected to start pre-season preparations with his new teammates however is unlikely to feature in Sunderland’s early pre-season matches.
Liam said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to join Sunderland. It’s a great chance for me to move up two divisions and show people what I can do.”
Lawrence is an attacking midfielder and was the Stags top scorer last season with 22 goals in all competitions.
