The difficult decision of choosing a sunderland supporter to bring to the United states, all expenses paid, ended yesterday when the final applicant was chosen for the position.
The decision came after an appeal was launched by both the sunderland echo and RTG last week on behalf of a group of sunderland supporters traveling from New York to all three SAFC games in the souther USA, who at the last minute were left in the lurch by an unamed telford fan, and who needed a driver for the trip.
“It was difficult.” Fraser, the spokesman of the group said. “And somewhat heart breaking. At the end of the day only one person was coming with us.”
Initially the decision was expecially daunting considering the number of applications sent in reply to the request; which included free match tickets, a plane flight and room and board, but it was made even more difficult by the quality of many of the applicants who clearly had many years driving experience in the USA.
However, the good news for two other fortunate Sunderland AFC fans was that, at the last minute, the application was extended to three individuals, all of which have been now picked.
“We had the opportunity and we took it to bring three people over instead of one.” Fraser continued. “We picked three really die hard sunderland fans and couldn’t choose between them.”
The winners are; A Granville, G. Lamb, and P. Longstaff.
All were chosen randomly having been drawn from a hat.
