Bolton gaffer Sam Allardyce has signed Michael Bridges on a free transfer, ending speculation that ‘Stickman’ was about to return to Sunderland.
Mickey joins them on a one year deal, with the option of another year after that, and he joins up with his new colleagues officially on 1st July, when his contract with newly-relegated Leeds expires.
Bridges, who started his professional career with Sunderland at a time when Allardyce was working at the club alongside Peter Reid. The youngster stayed for four years until summer 1999, said he was impressed with the set-up at The Reebok Stadium. “I was very impressed with the sports science department and have already met some of the coaches.
“I had offers from other clubs but Sam’s influence and their status in the Premiership was a major factor. Bolton are on the way up and that was a big plus point for me.”
And the North Shields-born striker spoke highly of his new boss.
“Sam worked with me on a few one-on-one sessions when I was in the youth setup.
“He’s a good man and has gone on to great things with Bolton.”
