KO TIME – 1.00pm
THE GROUND – Turf Moor, Harry Potts Way, Burnley – click here and here for maps of the area – the red circle shows where the ground is. Turf Moor has a total capacity of 22,500..
Sunderland’s final match this season sees the Lads travel to Burnley in Lancashire, north-west England – about 25 miles north of Manchester, and 20 miles west of Bradford, easily accessible from the M65. From the north-east though, you’re looking at A1 most of the way, then cross-country for the last bit (directions below).
AWAY SUPPORTERS
Away supporters are accommodated in the Cricket Field Stand which has a total capacity of 4,125. For a 360 degree view of Turf Moor, click here .
TICKETS
Sunderland’s allocation for this match is now completely SOLD OUT .
GOING BY CAR?
Travelling from the north east, get yourself onto the A1/A1M southbound.
In North Yorkshire about 8 miles after you pass the exit for Leeming, take the A61 signposted for Ripon
At Killinghall, turn right onto the B6161
After about a mile turn right onto the A59 signposted for Skipton
Just before Skipton there’s a roundabout – take the A65 signposted Kendal, Settle
After about 2 miles go back onto the A59, signposted for Clitheroe
After 3 miles take the A56 signposted for Colne, Burnley
After about 7-8 miles take the A6068 signposted ‘Burnley M65’ and follow signs for the motorway.
Join the M65 – you join it at jcn 14
Leave the M65 at jcn 11
At the first roundabout take the first exit for the B 6434 and at the next roundabout go straight forward, signposted ‘Town Centre’
At the next roundabout take the A679 signposted ‘Halifax, Rochdale’
At the traffic lights turn right onto the A682
At the roundabout take the first exit onto the A671
At ‘The Wellington’ pub traffic lights go straight forward
And you’re there!
From Sunderland it should take you about two and a half hours.
The ‘official’ away fans’ parking facilities are at the pay & display car park on Centenary Way, close to the bus station. Burnley Cricket Club is often made available for matchday parking but not on the day of our match as there’s a cricket match being played that day – steer clear!
There’s also on-street parking in the area (please park considerately!!) – but it’s recommended that you remove any evidence of your club allegiance from the car before you leave it –hanging mini-strips, scarves etc. DON’T park at Fulledge Recreation Ground, most home supporters use that for parking.
GOING BY TRAIN?
The 8am GNER from Newcastle will get you to York at 8.58am – then change for the 9.26am Transpennine Express which will get you to Burnley Manchester Road station just before 11am.
Going back to the north-east, the 4.06pm Transpennine Express from Burnley Manchester Road station will get you to York at 5.52pm, then change for the 6.11pm Virgin Trains service which gets you into Newcastle at 7.13pm.
It’s about a mile from the station to the ground and should take you about 20 minutes to walk. When you come out of the station cross the main road towards the cinema – you should already be able to see the ground. Turn left onto Centenary Way then at the roundabout turn right, go under the canal bridge into Yorkshire Street, straight over at the junction with Belvedere Rd/Todmorden Rd, straight ahead onto Harry Potts Way and you’ll see Turf Moor ground on your left.
For full timing details, fares and to book, go to National Rail’s website.

SCRAN AND BOOZE
Bear in mind that this is a 1pm kickoff and Sunday licensing laws usually mean pubs can’t open until midday.
Some pubs are no-go areas for away fans – such as The Swan and The Yates in Burnley town centre. Also, pubs along Brunshaw Road on the way to the ground are apparently best avoided as they get packed out with home supporters – avoid The Clog & Spindle, the Turf Hotel, The Bricklayers and The Wellington.
However the Ministry Of Ale on Manchester Road (close to the station) is particularly recommended for its beer and the Bridge Bier Huis. The Cricket Clubhouse, behind the away stand, welcomes away supporters as does the Mercury Tavern on the corner of Todmorden Road.
Inside the ground the usual ‘pint and pies’ bars operate.
LEND US A FIVER I’M OUT OF CASH
There is now a cash machine at the ground situation on the wall of the Bob Lord Stand on Harry Potts Way. From the away turnstiles walk down the road towards the ticket office at the other end of the Bob Lord Stand and the cash machine is just before you get there. Warning: It charges £1.50 per transaction. Other than that, free-to-use cash machines can be found in the town centre at the banks etc. or at Tesco across from tbe bus station.
IN THE NEWS
Their recent 1-0 win over Derby virtually assured their First Division status for next season.
The Clarets recently signed Dele Adebola until the end of this season.
Burnley bos Stan Ternent has just completed a four match touchline ban and paid a £3,000 fine imposed by the FA after a full and frank exchange of views with referee Graham Laws during the Clarets’ FA Cup tie against Gillingham.

MATCHDAY SPECIAL GUEST WITH AN SAFC CONNECTION!
Tony Scholes of Clarets Mad tells me: “At Burnley we have a former player on the pitch at half time. The player a week on Sunday is Peter Noble and he has specifically asked that he can do it at this game. Why? Because he is a Mackem – even though he did play for the Mags.”
Credits Burnley FC, Fanzone, Link, Multimap, Soccerbase, The AA, BBC – special thanks to TonyScholes!
