Sunderland’s game against Norwich today has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions across the North-East.
The referee, David Pugh, conducted a pitch inspection at approximately 8.30am this morning and decided it was unplayable.
The region has seen six inches of snow fall overnight and the MET office forecast is for persistent snow over the next six hours.
The condition of the region’s roads was a key determinant of the decision to postpone the game, due to serious concerns for supporters travelling to the ground. Only sections of the main highways (A19 and A1) in the region are currently passable and minor roads remain impassable.
Whilst the club was confident that the Stadium of Light pitch and seating deck could be cleared in time for kick-off, the safety of all supporters and players was a paramount concern due to the continued snow falls.
Sunderland AFC confirms that all tickets purchased for the game will be valid for the re-arranged fixture.
Details of the rearranged date will be added to our News Index as soon as we have them.
