SAFC v Preston – match postponed

January 31, 2004 by rtg

Sunderand’s game against Preston North End has been postponed due to standing water on sections of the Stadium of Light pitch.

The referee, Phil Prosser, inspected the pitch at 11.15am and was satisfied with its condition.

However, at 1.15pm, after persistent and heavy rain, the West Yorkshire official requested that all turnstiles be delayed from opening and asked the groundsman to spike the pitch.

Following this, Prosser again inspected the pitch and decided that the game should be postponed for the players’ safety.

Sunderland AFC confirms that all tickets purchased for the game will be valid for the re-aranged fixture.
