Sunderland midfielder Nicolas Medina’s year long loan to Spanish club
Leganes has paid dividends as his performances have impressed
Argentinean boss Marcelo Bielsa and earned him a place in the 20 man
squad currently battling to qualify for next summer’s Olympics.
The 21-year old is currently out in Chile and is hoping to be involved
in the game against Ecuador on Wednesday.
Medina, who is the only European-based player in the squad, was on the
bench when the Argentines drew 0-0 with Peru in their Group B opener
last week but was substituted on in their 2-1 win over Bolivia on
Saturday.
Argentina face further matches against Ecuador and Columbia this week
and Medina is expected to feature.
Two teams from South America will qualify for the Olympics next summer,
which is an under-23 tournament.
