Press release from Sunderland AFC:
Black Cats’ fans are being given the chance to bid for one-off
Sunderland memorabilia whilst helping to support innovative educational
projects throughout the region at the same time.
The SAFC Foundation, the registered charity of Sunderland Football Club
has launched a web-site based auction of exclusive football items, many
of which have been donated by current and former Sunderland players.
The unique collection includes Julio Arca’s match boots, personally
signed by the Argentinian crowd favourite, a round of golf with Black
Cat’s boss, Mick McCarthy, Goalkeeper gloves signed by Mart Poom and a
chance to be Sunderland’s mascot for a forthcoming fixture at the
Stadium of Light.
SAFC Director, Helen Dunn said:
“The Foundation aims increase the motivation and educational attainment
of young people throughout the North of England by developing exciting
projects based around football. We are a registered charity and entirely
self-funding and we therefore hope to raise a significant amount of
money with our auction. All funds raised will go directly to helping
young people in our region.”
Commenting on the auction, Black Cats Boss Mick McCarthy said:
“I have been very impressed by the work of the SAFC Foundation and
myself and the players are delighted to support this fund-raisng
initiative.”
Bidding commenced earlier this week and the site will close December
9th, enabling successful bidders can receive their goods before
