Birmingham City’s Clinton Morrison has spoken out tonight to distance himself from rumours that he wants to move to Sunderland and play for his old international manager Mick McCarthy again.
Reports earlier today quoted Morrison as saying “McCarthy knows me and I know him. He’s a great coach and I’d love to work with him again even if it was just for a month or two. I need to play matches, to get goals and I need to regain match fitness and, if I do, then there’s something in it for Sunderland as well because they are going for promotion.”
But tonight the player seemed to have made a complete about-turn, telling the Blues’ official website, “”It was suggested very early in the season about the possibility of me going out on loan because I’d been out injured for so long.
“But I spoke to the manager Steve Bruce and we came to the conclusion that it would be best for me to work hard here and get my match fitness in the reserves and that’s what I’ve done.
“The actual article itself first appeared three or four months ago – it isn’t true anymore and I’m happy here and I just want to wait for my chance to come.”
