FIFA have confirmed that Sunderland are NOT liable to pay compensation to Celtic FC for the transfer of Colin Healy earlier this year.
Healy’s contract with the Bhoys expired in the summer and Celtic said International Football League Board rules state that compensation is payable for players aged 23 and under moving between England, Irish and Scottish clubs.
However, under Fifa regulations, the responsibility ends when a player reaches the age of 23.
Celtic issued a statement today saying “We have received conformation in writing from Fifa, the international governing body of football, to advise that Fifa regulations do apply in the case of Colin Healy’s transfer to Sunderland.”
