Sunderland AFC has today confirmed that left-winger Tommy Butler has had surgery on one of his ankles, which will see him out of action for around six weeks.
The young Irish international first suffered the injury during the home match against Cardiff last month, and his attempt to come back from the injury this week ended in failure and Monday’s surgery.
Tommy hopes to resume training in around a month’s time, with a view to being fully fit for the busy Christmas match schedule.
