SAFC on TV?
Despite Sunderlands recent woeful form there is at last a good chance that Sunderland association football club will at last be on live worldwide TV again- despite their absence from their premiership!
For a good while now various sattelite broadcasters have toyed with the idea of broadcasting first division matches in the USA, Australia and the Far East but so far no one has taken up the idea.
Basically, this is because, in order for us (in this case I’m talking about the usa) to get live matches, it takes more then just a satelite company to have the game live: We also need a carrier…. or in other words someone who is willing to take the chance to beam that game to the company in question; and this is something of a gamble when the first division is concerned.
A wrong move without the audience to support it could lose the company in question a substantial amount of money and also use up valuable air time where bigger matches could instead be used to gain cappital.
But at last someone seems to have taken the gamble.
Setanta sport, or so a little bird has told me, has aquired the rights to broadcast live first division matches in the USA (and in doing so use a carrier available to any country in the world that recieves US TV) and the matches could be being shown live in a pub near you as soon as xmas or the New Year.
For a while I’ve hinted that this was on the cards but now, at last, it seems official. So, so long as you have a sports bar near by that is willing to flick the channel over (and that can get the elusive Sentanta sports) SAFC should at last be aviable… the catch being of course that the comentry is going to be in Spanish.
So Lads and Lasses, get your spanish to english dictionaries out!
