Singing superkev on the tube and down Wembley way, the atmosphere was amazing.
Speaking to my uncle at full time, yet none of us know what we said. Going to sleep on the sitting room floor.
I was 12 years old, the memories i have are;
walking up wembley way singing 'super, super kev'
Piss flowing all over in the blokes bogs
crying when Mickey Gray missed
having a cracking happy meal on the way home
Soz fat lad
I was 4 and got a piece of fucking paper stuck up my nose on the train on the way back! Summed the day up!
EDIT: I was 5
Loads of dodgy notes being passed around.
The sing song in Trafalgar Sq
Singing for Mickey Gray while he sat sobbing on the pitch.
The miserable journey back to Sunderland.
The sheer masses of red and white all the way down Wembley way, the tube ride which I still have the ticket for somewhere, some big baldy Charlton fan singing 'Super Clive Mendonca' before the game outside Wembley. What a day
Quinny's header for our first goal.
Remember thinking it was the best header there'd ever been in the history of football, then again I was only 7 at the time
Alcohol, train, singing, penalties, losing, train, Alcohol
Which one you young pup
keep your eye out on ESPN classic, it has been advertised.
We've only been in one
I have never ever watched it back, apart from those little pics in my head and they are getting a bit fuzzy now
Would love to see the game back. Only ever saw brief highlights on youtube but the quality is shite. Anar we got beat, but what a day man! Best match I've ever been to. Anyway, getting beat turned out to be a good thing
If we're talking about the Charlton play-off, my memories are having a brilliant time in Wearside Wanderers pub in Wembley the night before, decorating the pub in Red n' White. The pub was absolutely mobbed with S'land the next day and a topper time was had.
As for the game, I just remember it as the most stressful match ever. My heart was beating like the clappers all the way through.
It is the only time in my life I have prayed - I was asking my Dad, who had been dead for 20 odd years, to do something and make us win.
Strange what a lot of beer and a lot of stress can do!!!
After the match I literally don't think I spoke a word for the rest of the day. Never seen any of the match on TV since and I'm not sure I want to.
Overall, can't say that I enjoyed the day!!!!
best (play-off) game/final to played ever tbh.. without a doubt..
a Sunderland born Charlton player dashing the hopes of all Sunderland fans and players to take Charlton into the Prem..
Still.... look where they are now! Whose having the last laugh now!
Didn`t Mendoncas families windows get put through in Town End Farm?
