Providing they both sign?
Cattermole to make way perhaps?
What do we reckon?
Catts to Liverpool- a billion quid. Nailed on.
what about will?
No direct competition for a starting place IMO the way it should be,strength and depth in our squad for once.
I also believe cattermole will make way and leave. Question is, is it a bad thing?
I'm struggling to think of how they'll both fit into the same team. I can't see them working in a 4 man midfield and if we play a central three where do the likes of Larsson and Sessegnon fit in? Is Bruce planning on playing Sess at the left of a front three.
I can't remember the last time we had actual competition for centre midfield. In recent years it has been cattermole and Cana/Henderson nailed on if fit.
Left to right: Sessegnon - Gardner - Cattermole - Larsson.
Or, left to right: Steed - Gardner - Cattermole - Larsson.
Sessegnon (or Steed) tucked in behind in a 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 with Gardener/Colback/Meyeler/Catts/Gibson in the middle.
Desperately need some cover on the left. Now, who can we think of......?
Wouldnt be bothered to see catts leave for a decent fee, but I think he will be here next season, and if he can stay fit he will do a good job.
Half a cup winning midfield, or half a relegated midfield, if they were that good.................
Steady on, for the moment we're desperately short of central midfielders, never mind selling our best one.
They would not be signing for us. Get over it Gardner scored more goals in a poor team than our whole midfield put together and Gibson has looked tidy for Manu when he plays. Both young ambitious good signings and the best we can hope for at this level. Though you would probably be raving about newcastles new signings we all no very little about.
Sunderland rolling over in the transfer market again if true!
That's what I was thinking.
Signing these two would fit into the 4-3-3/4-5-1 which is favoured by plenty of teams nowadays, however that formation doesn't really accomodate both Sessegnon and Larsson.
Gibson - Cattermole - Gardner
Sessegnon --------- A.N.Other
works quite well, as does:
Larsson - Gibson - Cattermole - Gardner - A.N.Other
But it doesn't ideally suit either in their most favoured positions.
We dont have to have every player we sign automatically jumping into a starting 11. Its about building a good squad with competition for places and no harm if catts doesnt automatically walk into the team and same for gardner or gibson. Competition will hopefully improve all of their performances. We dont want 11 automatic starters and dross to fill up the bench which we normally have. All of the decent teams have good rotation in their sides.
Thanks, Captain obvious. I'm simply looking at possible starting XIs.
Not bothered who starts as long as Sess is played in his best position because from the last 5 games of the season I think hes got the potential to be our best player- pace, skill, scores goals and puts in a hell of a shift.
