why can't you call the mags, 'the toon'?

They say it with a faux accent - to make them sound more Geordie than those from central Newcastle.

Not quite as ridiculus as Toon Army Foot Soldiers.

:lol::lol: I almost spat my tea out LOLing when I read that. Worst I've seen.

Because that's what they want to be called.

No one calls anyone a nickname they made up for themselves.

It's like when you were at school and some loser says "hey everyone, from now on call me Dread." Nah mate, your names Peado Rick, now stop being such a nonce.
So do we refer to them as the paedo nonces from now on there mate?

A name that appeared not long after SKY. How a e.g. Durham mag can say toon with a straight face is beyond me.
God Bless:
Sky
John - Geordie Nation - Hall
Richard "Apeman" - everyone's second favourite team - Keys
Freddie - How do you spell Toon? - Shepherd
Douglas - I'm his son - Hall

for what they have given to that lot up the road and for giving me so many laughs over the years.

Don't stop - don't ever stop!!

1.It's a friendly pet name for their team, I wouldn't expect them to say that they were playing "the Lads" when they play us.
2. It is their town. Sounds ridiculous for anyone with no connection to Newcastle to assume town means Newcastle and not their own town.
3. If it's not your accent it sounds ridiculous.
4. "Toon"/"Toon Army"- all rather corny.

Acceptable names:
Newcastle
The Skunks
The Mags
Barcodes
Black and whites
"Them lot"
Scum/other offensive words

Unacceptable names:
The Toon (unless taking the piss, and saying Toooooooon)
Toon Army
The Town
The Geordies
