With no more business this window?
I think we have a tenth place squad as it stands.
Assuming we get Mensah, we will need a left back and a wide player, possibly another striker as well but that's not a priority.
Taiwo and N'Zogbia and we'd be in very good shape imo.
LW and then i'll be happy
I know some people aren't keen on Figueroa but I don't understand the attraction with Taiwo. He's done even less in the Prem. And no I'd be disappointed with no more business this window.
On what basis do you think we have moved 3 places forward based on this transfer window so far? Personally I don't think the squad is any stronger.
Taiwo hasn't played in the Premier League but he has played in World Cups and the Champions League on a regular basis. He's miles ahead of Figueroa.
Certainly don't agree there like. Premier League experience is what we should be after, and MF wins hands down.
Figueroa is on a similar level to Bardsley. Taiwo is far superior in every way, he's also a set piece specialist something we could benefit from massively.
Taiwo would fit straight into the Premier League, he has all the physical attributes and is a class above Figueroa. He is also a threat going forward, something Figueroa lacks.
Keeper - Don't know enough about Mignolet to judge, but Gordon earned us a few points last time
Defence - I'm looking forward to seeing Angeleri, hope he's as good as he's made out to be. Full Backs were our real achilles heal in the first half of last season. I think if Rico plays on the left and Angeleri on the right, I'd be happy. Centre of defence seems ok
Midfield - more than happy with the centre if Riveros proves his worth (he got better as the World Cup went on I thought) I'm happy with Steed, but think he could do with some competition there. On the right, I think we'll be ok. I thought at times last year, we weren't creating enough from midfield, and there weren't enough goals coming from there either. Hope that changes.
Forward - Looks good if Benty reproduces last seasons form. We need Campbell to progress a bit, and I'm happy for Jonesy to keep up with his dozen goals again.
If we had kept Cana & added a LW then I would have been happy.
I still think we need a replacement for Cana - It goes against everything Bruce has said previously re South Americans to expect him to instantly step up and perform.
So to me we need a LW and a CM - Ideally a proper LB too but wont get one
Quite apart from the fact I doubt that Taiwo would consider coming here for one second, you cannot say with any certainty he would fit straight in nor that he is a class above. As said Figueroa has the edge on experience and he cannot be said to be lacking a threat going forward either.
He looked half decent for a while under Bruce, last season he struggled to reach the dizzy heights of average.
He has said in the past he would be interested in a move to us.
His agent also said a couple of days ago that we might sign him on a free transfer next summer.
Taiwo exceeds Figueroa in every department apart from free kicks inside his own half and Premier League experience but as I said, he has all the physical attributes to excell in the PL.
Works for me.
Seems like a non story to me, a denial of our interest and declaration of admiration for Keano, who is no longer our manager, doesn't exactly scream come and get me
All about opinions, but I'd be happier with Figgy than Taiwo.
He didn't look decent though... Richardson looked better at left back last season especially at home.
In most positions we are stronger or no worse off.
The younger players are a year older and have more experience. Players like Catts and Da Silva will be that bit more settled and there will be that bit more understanding.
I agree if we don't strengthen any further we'll still be stronger than last year.
However, I think we'll get N'Zogbia or A.N. Other on the left.
I also think that as the window closes and teams need to to ship people out for the new 25 squad rule we might pick up a bargain or two, but if we don't pick anyone up I'll still be a happy bunny.
