I remember being terrified when Sir Bobby Robson was the manager at NUFC. He was a nightmare for Sunderland fans and fitted every requirement as a Mag boss, local hero, excellent manager, contacts all over Europe, respected throughout the country and absolutely impossible to hate. I really thought the Mags were about to break their half century duck and win something But then, a miracle happened. The 'Geordie Nation' became restless and when the Mugs in charge sacked him because they felt 'he couldn't take the club to the next level' there was barely a murmur of protest, nee bedsheets, nowt! The Newcastle managers job was decribed as being 'one of the top jobs in world football'. The Mags were salivating at the thought of one of the really big names coming in and they were totally unbearable. Now they have Chris Hughton signing players like Best and Perch. We all want success now but sometimes there's a very high price to pay for going for a quick fix. I'm sure that, now that the window has closed, every Sunderland fan will forget that Steve Bruce once went to watch Newcastle when he was a kid and give their support to the club. We all do daft things when we're young. A top half finish and a decent cup run may not be earth shattering but it's progress and that'll do for me this season.
