he will not see one second of game time in this tournament.
would it be pointless if ashley cole got injured in the first game?
i still think if he had, which he has not, then capello would have played another player in the position.
Stephen Warnock is 28, why he is in the squad ahead of Baines I don't know.
Agreed. There'll be very few teams who use all 23 players over the course of the tournament.
Go through 95% of world cup squads and you will find outfield players who have not played a single minute
Shocking thread, Cartwright on a one man look at me mission today
Baines was poor in the friendlies (not entirely through his own fault) and then said he might get homesick.
no alli pally wanted me to expand my criticism. he wondered why i singled out heskey.
i am sorry folks but warnock, has played 6 mins of international football in the last two years. are you seriously telling me, that period allowed capello, to build up enough knowledge of him and his ability to perform, at world cup level, if ash cole had gone down with an injury after one min of the first game?
why has he not played any england international in the last 18 months?
that is why i call it a "pointless selection"
Cos Wayne Bridge was 2nd choice left back until he retired form international football
He was cover for left back was does not make him a pointless selection.
We might go through and A.Cole might get injured, then he might be needed
Who would you have took for cover for left back?
Have England been knocked out btw
Ask Capello. He rates him highly enough to have him close to the squad but hasn't given him game time. I think Warnock got in because Baines played himself out of contention as much as anything...
How stupid of Capello to take 2 left backs.
no england have not been knocked out.
as for bridge, during that period he has spent a lot of time injured.
that is not the point i asked though. do you think that a player can have 6 mins of action in a two year period and show enough to be selected for a world cup squad?
imo if cole was injured, capello would ask either barry or carragher to drop back there.
thats all i am saying.
not the point of the question but good effort
Maybe but I doubt Warnock will have a future in the England squad after this tournament, Baines will have so should have gone on that basis.
Frustrating that England are thinking so short term when it comes to the back up players.
Baines would do as well, if not better than Warnock, Johnson would be a better option than SWP, Huddlestone or Rodwell would be just as good as Carrick.
They, like Hart, would then have experience at a major tournament, which would help us in the future and that's even if they didn't play a minute.
baines has been in the press denying that home sickness comment.
Why on earth would you not take 2 left backs ?
Even is he has only played 6 mins for England.
again not the point of what i am asking.
6mins in two years he has played. surely he could have had some more time than that.
quick edit there.
imo capello would play carragher or barry in front of warnock.
Aye but any left back is better than taking 3 right backs if Cole gets injured. Did Tony Dorigo play in 1990 ?
The question was pretty stupid as any left back he would have took alongside Cole would have played the same amount as Warnock.
So Capello should not have took cover for left back because you think he would have put Barry or Carragher there
your opinions areas valid as mine. it is an opinion i hold. no need for any abuse.
i just dont see any point in warnock being there. he wont play.
thats all. nowt against his ability, he may be one of the best full backs at the tournament, but he has had no chance of showing his ability for england in two years.
that is my point
baines played more than warnock, so that defeats that argument
