Anyone got one and what are the pros and cons, just had a look at the 2.7 diesel SE specked.
Engine Size 2720 cc
0-60 mph 8.1 s
Power Output 206 bhp
Torque 435 Nm 320 lb-ft
Top Speed 143 mph
good power specs - depends on the gearbox ratios as to how well it can shift though . bit lardy and old manish to me , alot of ford mondeo on them and the depreciate really badly. would be a monster car with a remap like
They did a S Type Rwith souped up spec.
Absolutely beautiful body. I cant believe they discontinued it, it was gonna be my holy Grail car when I'm a fat old geezer and cant climb into a Jeep any more.
Get yourself an XK man.
agree..they've brought out a 3 litre diesel and there's lots of the 2.7's going second hand
The XK is the sports one isn't it?
Yes, I sold mine last year. Lovely motor.
Now I am an old man I am having a Jag next. Wanted one since I was 16. Can't make my mind up between an S type and an XJ. S type may be more practical for work but I the XJ has always been my favourite.
Low mileage diesels are like rocking horse shite though unless you have wads of cash.
I can't afford a new one and have always been put off by the potential repair cost of a low mileage used one. Am I too cautious?
i your right i thought he meant the 4 door
The XF is a lovely looking car mind.
the only chance i've got of being in one is if one knocks me over and i got flung through the windscreen
It is an automatic box, and I am am "oldish" man, and hopefully on a 56 plate any problems should have been sorted
Bit over what I am prepared to pay.
Not many XJs about at the price of the S type.
Sister-in-law has just got herself and XKR and it's a stormer of a car
What you want is a nice classic XJS like this - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2071832.htm
Bulletproof engine and every journey will be an event.
What money you save buying it can be put towards the fuel.
Every journey will be an event while you wait for the RAC to tow you home. That was a horrible compromise between sports and luxury and very unreliable. My mate had one that was never out of the shop. Lucal electronics too? Just to make it more interesting!
How long ago was that, what model and what age?
whats your reasoning for wanting a s-type jag , especially a derv twin turbo that does 36mpg tops ??? its basically a ford mondeo in drag . is it the image thing ? ( look at me in my jag ) , i hope not. the 3.0 petrol is very affordable at 2k and under ,reasons being no one wants them and its a ford .
nice car for comfort and gizzmos , but really they are nowt special . if you did buy 1 ,it would have to be for life cos in 3 years time your money will of been lost.
It is a bit of that, the kids have left home and i have never had a "quality" car, not a great lover of BMWs and I don't get the Audi thing, Mercs are nice but the same speck will cost about 5 grand more than a Jag, got a budget of about 14 grand, time for a bit of spending on me for a change. Anything else in that bracket ?
The " i own a jag" image is quite feasable to those that know nothing about cars and their respective values - i could pop out this afternoon and buy the 3.0 se petrol for 1900 ££ . those in the know laugh at this ownership image status thing . if i were looking at spending 14k , me personnaly would look to be buying either a top end vw passat , top end ford mondeo , or for the fun and looks factor an audi TT , and just blend in to obscurity along with other motorists and have the neighbours guessing about my wealth .
the clothes dont make the man .
