anyone thinking of getting dogs should seriously consider a rescue. Many dogs, cats and other animals are desperate for homes after mistreatment or owners not being able to look after them anymore. The only reason I am really bringing this up is because my mam has been in the process of adopting a little dog from Brysons Animal Rescue for the last 2/3 weeks and they have been absolutely great. Instead of letting anybody take the animals home you do have to go through a process of walking or petting the animals a few times before they consider letting you taking a dog out for a day trial at your home. They then come out to your house and do a home-check where they will basically just make sure there is adequate space and your lifestyle is right for the dog. My mam very recently had to have the beloved family dog put to sleep and she was devastated. The house wasn't the same without a dog and she just couldn't settle without the company of a canine. We talked her into going down to Brysons and having a look and she fell in love with a little terrier cross called Nacho. She walked him a few times, he came home for a day, was home checked and then had a weeks trial. She now is the proud owner of Nacho for good, as of today when she went down and signed the adoption papers. :-D His previous owner was a guy whose shifts had changed at work and was told if he didn't accept the new shift pattern then he would lose his job, the guy was devastated when he handed him over to Brysons but really had no choice. Nacho was only in the kennels for 3 days before my mam had her hands on him. Other dogs arent so lucky though and some of the poor things have been in for months and months. They have some cracking looking dogs in at the minute and are inundated with cats too, if you are after one. It really is worth thinking about if you are thinking about a new pet. The people that volunteer there are such lovely people and will give you all the help and info you need. Highly recommended.
