Well thought of garage down this way is Cartech Prestige in Hartlepool. Porsche specialist indie garage, well thought of around these parts and not just by Porsche owners, quite often see Maserati's, Merc AMG's, BMW M series cars along with some serious exotica now and again such as Ferrari and Ultimas such is their reputation.

Afternoon all,

Been looking at buying a used Porsche 911, (a 997 model ideally, about 5-6 years old).

Just wondering if there are any owners on here who've had any positive/negative experiences, and whether there are any Porsche specialists in the north east who might be a better bet than using the main dealer at silver link? If not, are the folks at silver link any good?

A lad I know (just bought a forged engine from him and have had a car from him in the past, so I know he is not full of shit) has one and he barely uses it.
The spark plugs take hours to do and there are no rear arch liners, so the exhaust manifold nuts and studs turn into blobs of rust and have to be cut off.
He is always bricking it incase of IMS or IMS bearing failure, among other things and he says that it has to go to Porsche or a specialist for everything, otherwise people don't want to touch them, when you are selling.

He says it is the best car he has ever had, and is amazing to drive, but there's too much to worry about!

Peter Richardson at RPR626.

Speak to the DP at Porsche Newcastle and he will tell you the same if you're looking for used Porsche.

There's a guy called Tom Ferguson who just focuses on Porsches. He has done for years. He sorted me out with one when I got one years ago and was trustworthy with services, MOTs etc.

Mine started overheating and I thought the head gasket had gone and it would cost me a bloody fortune to fix. He rang me after I dropped it off to say a carrier bag had gotten into the fan and he never charged me for anything

His garage if it's still there was in the industrial estate near the Metro Arena
Its just along from where I work.
Come off the felling bypass for Gateshead stadium, turn left at the bottom.
Between The Schooner and Rolls Royce.
Odd crack though as he normally seems to have about 20 cars on display but if you go on the website he only has "stock" of about 3.

Lad I know bought a Boxster from that garage in Durham and says the owner has been really helpful since.
I've been told there's a garage in Gateshead who specialise in them too.
