Afternoon all,

Been looking at buying a used Porsche 911, (a 997 model ideally, about 5-6 years old).

Just wondering if there are any owners on here who've had any positive/negative experiences, and whether there are any Porsche specialists in the north east who might be a better bet than using the main dealer at silver link? If not, are the folks at silver link any good?

911s are lovely cars and very reliable if they have been regularly serviced. Pay particular attention to the electrics - make sure everything works. Check for signs of major repair and crash damage.

Can't help with a specialist in the NE I'm afraid.

Cheers Marra, might buy the bullet and get one from a main dealer, more peace of mind I suppose.

D&G Porsche NE29 8SF are worth considering. My brother and a mate have had work done there. Not too far from the dealership in Silverlink.

Trickle down wealth.

OP buys a Porsche, needs a garage where it needs servicing, garage employees lad who services car, lad from garage, has job etc etc

I'm in a similar situaion with my collection of classic cars (52 reg Renault Clio & 54 reg astra) but require servicing and MOT so am pleased to be putting money back in to local economy.

Thanks Marra, it's good to see someone understanding the bigger picture

There's a guy called Tom Ferguson who just focuses on Porsches. He has done for years. He sorted me out with one when I got one years ago and was trustworthy with services, MOTs etc.

Mine started overheating and I thought the head gasket had gone and it would cost me a bloody fortune to fix. He rang me after I dropped it off to say a carrier bag had gotten into the fan and he never charged me for anything

His garage if it's still there was in the industrial estate near the Metro Arena
