Pickford's future

Instead of people discussing when he is likely to leave and for how much It would be refreshing to hear supporters discuss how the club could keep him long term and start building a team around him.

You never know, he might actually be happy to stay and if all he ever reads is stuff about how and when he will leave that might actually undermine his desire to stay.

Until we start being able to keep hold of our best young players we will be doomed to mediocrity.

Any club with a talent like Pickford on their hands has the choice of either trying to keep him and trying to drag the club upto a level where his ambitions can be achieved by staying at the club or just cashing in and resigning the club to future struggle.

If someone said to you, you can do the same job but you could quadruple your wages would you?

I would

If one of the really big clubs came for him he'd be daft not to go. Someone like Spurs or Liverpool he'd be better holding on IMO.

Anyone who thinks a bigger club won't come and snatch the better players of a smaller club is naive. Not to mention the fact that the owner and manager might want to sell. Even Man Utd had to sell Ronaldo eventually

went home sick?

Man Utd didn't have to sell at all. They did beacause Ronaldo wanted away. Players and agents have all the power these days.

sell him for 100m, + 1m per save.
don't tell ellis short.
bring in: hart, m'vila, ki, siggurdsson, chambers, delofeu, smalling, berahino.
somehow win league.

Would he go to sit on bench somewhere? Top clubs all havee keepers who will be ahead of him in pecking order. Maybe Spurs as Lloris is refusing new contract so may have been touted so to speak. Personally think Moyes is the man for Sunderland, and he has said all along it's a building job. If he can convince Pickford he is a foundation of that and we survive this first season he may not want to leave yet.

I disagree that we need to build our team around Pickford. Southampton have shown us the way forward, sell for huge money and then re-invest and make the squad stronger, we would be daft to turn down £25-30m for him. The good news is that the big hitters like Man City, Liverpool, Spurs will all be in the market for a goalkeeper, he is going to go for huge money and will comfortably top the fee we got for Henderson.
Agree. On the flip side the lad shouldn't be wanting to go unless he can be first choice at said big hitter. That may well mean that he plays for us for longer than an outfield prospect would - and the fee goes up accordingly.

You mentioned bigger clubs coming in for players, totally different situation with Ronaldo.
Not really. biggest club in the world offers world record money for another club's best player. club sell because money on offer too good to turn down seeing as player wants to leave

and Sunderland have shown us how this method is dependent on having decent scouting

Sure you're being tongue in cheek, but you're doing the lad a disservice repeatedly claiming this one for Moyes. It's been evident this lad was destined for top things since long before Moyes entered the picture, and it's hard to imagine any manager would have handled the injury to Mannone much differently. It's not like Moyes has given him his debut or anything.
Well Moyes did turn down the loan option of Joe Hart when offered because he thought it would hinder Pickfords development

for someone like stones to fetch 50 million for basically potential....because he's still pretty shite at the minute, there is no reason why we cant hold out for similar money

we might not get 50 because he's a goalkeeper but still, hold tight and dont f***ing budge on the asking price
