It also shows you what can be done with simple good management technique and ability. there are plenty of clubs over the years who have punched above their weight without spending vast sums of money and plenty who have chucked load sof money at this and got fuckall in return ie SAFC and NUFC.

I think that he's a decent manager BUT, when he is given some cash to spend, doesn't spend it wisely - think back to the players he wasted it on here, following promotion.

Granted, he wasn't given a fortune to spend but the way he allocated the funds at his disposal was ridiculous - £1.25m for Davis (as an example) was crazy, considering that we, already, had two good goalkeepers on the books!
 
I've often said that he should have walked that close season between promotion and starting the PL having been forced to wave the white flag before we'd even played our first game by Murray.

We all knew that team was way too small and slow for the PL and Fergie couldn't have built a team to stop up on the paltry budget McCarthy was given. Ten million quid for everything - not just transfer fees but signing on fees, wages etc. Bloody criminal.
