I like him. Great guy. But no1? Never won a major...
golf.... give a fuck
Unless the ranking system has changed, there's no question about it, is there?
He's the most consistent player out there at the moment. On the leaderboard at just about every competition he enters and has been in the top three at most of the recent Majors. No other player at the moment can match that so that ranks him No 1 in the World. Can't see where the argument is.
Some players might hit some excellent form over a weekend and pick up a Major title but they can't do it on a regular basis, being in with a shout at every Major competition is an amazing feat and shouldn't be belittled. He's not being proclaimed as an all time world best but over the last twelve months there are none that can match his consistency at the top level.
Technically correct but h'way man, coming 2nd or 3rd all the time does not make you the best player in the world.
Agreed, it's a hollow title he has.
because the true test of a golfer is how they deal with the pressure of the worlds glare in the majors.
ask someone in 20 years how good Westwood was and they will say the nearly man of his time. ask them about Woods and they will say he was the greatest ever sportsman
That's probably true, but why are all the golfers who are better than him finishing below him in tournaments more often than not?
i think he will win one next season. he has been in the top three a few times and unlike monty, i feel he will win at least one major.
can remember people saying the same about Monty
it was but i think westwood has more chance of a major than cook has of making 30 odd test tons
bit of a difference winning a major and scoring 30 test tons
haway cooky lad get stuck into those Aussies
haway Cooky lad
if he gets 2 this series i will be happy
he will get 2 at Brisbane man
thats the spirit
Equate it to Football. If you get points for high position finishes in each tournament you end up top of the league. Winning a Major is the equivalent of playing well to get to the FA Cup final. Huddesfield could theoretically win the FA Cup but it wouldn't make them as good as Chelsea over the course of the season and Chelsea wouldn't have had to have won any FA Cups in the past to be classed the best team in the League if they finish top of the Premiership.
It also doesn't mean that Chelsea are the best team ever because they've some good results this season and finished top, Man Utd would still be considered the best team of the last couple of decades.
The problem with the Majors is they are skewed in favour of the US. Tour. If say the European PGA (which it really is in all but name) was a Major then European golfers such as Monty in his day and now Westwood, would have a better chance of winning. Ive no doubt Monty would have.
