For all our excellent play in the first half, did Almunia actually have a shot to save?
Probably the same as Mignolet. Mind you Onouha should have scored with his free header.
This remains the issue we have to address in the long run.
We simply need more goals from our midfield.
Newcastle's midfielders have already scored more this season than ours in the whole of last season + this season. Ours just don't even look like scoring.
We always have enough pressure for Bent to have a chance at home, but away from home it would make a massive difference if some of our midfielders could score.
I was so proud of the way we played on the first half, but so frustrated we hadn't turned our efforts into goals.
Considering 6 of the team were signed in the summer (not including Gyan), I think we need to have a little more patience.
It has been an issue for over a season that the midfielder who gets into the best scoring positions has the worst shooting accuracy of them all. Steed is a fantastic creative force but is shocking when presented with a shooting chance in and around the box.
That's what happens when you play 451, you create more chances but have less presence to finish them off.
