Anyone been? Any good?
Surely that all depends on who is on?
Its a good night out.....the compere is usually the best act
Aye, fair comment. I was thinking more about the venue, grub, drinks prices etc. It's in Liquid nightclub which I've never been to but doesn't sound quite right for a comedy venue.
If the 3 who are supposedly regular acts there that performed at the dinner I was at on Friday are owt to go by, I wouldn't get your hopes up. To be fair, one was good, the other two were appallingly bad.
I used to go to the one in Whitechapel, always a good night out.
Go on name them!
It's good news that The Stand is opening in Newcastle. Their Glasgow and Edinburgh clubs are amazing
thingy and erm.......him
never heard of the place being fair, may have a dodge through at some point
the one in leeds was canny. Decent scran prices werent too bad either. five peroni in an ice bucket was something like £12 notes. The turns are no different to most club acts to be fair. theres some good and some complete shite. Part of bar risa
There's a bloke I'd like to see called Rick Right performing there on Fri/Sat, 18/19 Feb, but I need to research the other acts first - Phil Butler (rave review in the Guardian), Paul Pirie and Jason Patterson.
There's a Groupon offer today for £10 including a drink, a burger and 'VIP entrance' to the aftershow at Liquid, whatever that is.
Anyone go to the comedy night at the barnes on Friday? Alun cochrane and Mike Ferry were the main acts. Both been on the Apollo and Mock the week etc. They were both brilliant and it was a really good night. Both did just under an hour each along with the compare who was decent and a lass from monkwearnouth who was awful. Can't grumble for a tenner on our door step. Think they are planning another in march with some amercian comedian.
The one in Camden was pretty good. When I went the compare was a mag, and fairly funny to be fair.
I imagine its just a case of who you catch on the night. Some Jewish lad made his first appearance when I was there and he was pretty poor. Our table started heckling him and instead of ripping us to pieces, he totally lost his composure, throat dried up and his come back was "that wasnt very nice". I would be amazed if he ever performed again after seeing him visibly wilt on stage.
John Smith by any chance....
Washy lad, but he was a fucking mag like. Runs comedy club over newcastle now after being down the smoke for years.
Dont remember, was about 10 years ago. But, he had kind of straight gingery hair to just above his shoulders. I am sure he said he was from a village in Northumberland.
Saw him in December - wasn't impressed.
Paul Purrie is a vastly under rated comedian IMHO
Separate names with a comma.
