Fookin True, unfortunately SKY archive doesn't exist........

That's why it closed first eh? Fookin Mint crack.......

Many reasons why they closed first, a lot of them come back to government subsidies........it doesn't detract from the fact that Sunderland were the best and that's how we got our name. Geordies got their name from arse-licking royalty......true story

Sunderland had a higher output than a country of 150million people marra........Tyneside had a few government awarded (there's a surprise :)) contracts. Sunderland were just miles better

Higher output? Of course you did... It takes far less time to build a shed than a palace.

I worked on the tyne alongside mackems whose yards had more or less totally closed down. Ark Royal, Illustrious, Sheffield, Coventry I was there when we rebuilt then all... Alongside mackems who detested and we're embarrassed being so called. But you rewrite your history, marra. We don't need to.
They didn't marra.......stop lying

The only thing that they found unpleasant was that the Geordie workers kicked off whenever Mackems were brought in to do the work. Understandably the geordies were scared that they would be outworked and definitely outskilled

And the tyne built neither

You would like to think so but again the term delude Geordie springs to mind.

Mackems are famous for Macking ships and Geordies are famous for licking Royal arse.........tell me which bit of that is untrue and why?

Told ye, we formed the bedrock of this club when we were really shit, think you may have more in common with your SKY 1992 brethern than you think, do ya research sweetie......

We worked alongside our Sunderland workmates... The skills of both were exemplary. Both sets of yards closed down because we were unable to build ships as cheaply as elsewhere. We built far bigger shops on the tyne than on the Wear, though, because we had the capacity to do so, so naturally larger ships took longer to build: hence, our output was naturally lower though in gross terms, our tonnage was vastly higher. Your statistics are misdirecting you from the facts.

You're talking about recent years where the tyne was propped up by government contracts marra and sunderland shipyards were all closing because of lack of support..........Sunderland's output was vastly higher going back through history........I know that's hard to swallow. But whatever, Mackems are known as such for making ships and it was a title proudly embraced by people in sunderland for that reason..........geordies think it's derogatory which makes it even more delicious to be honest.

No, they could turn out the same ship quickly, they were no good at specialist ships and big stuff. They couldn't build them. They were good at what they did. The tankers were private. The carriers were specialist ships. I know I was involved in both and worked alongside lads from pickies and Sunderland shipbuilders on design and build. But as I said its history. You are welcome to refer to yourself what you want if you support my club.

Me neither. Geordies here Geordies there ......before it was decreed Illegal and that.

You've never heard 'We hate geordies' being sang? Do you watch it on sky?

I disagree with the first part.....you are clearly wrong.

For the second part, you're welcome to refer to yourself as geordies so long as you don't sing about it at the match as it's not welcome at our mackem club

Told ye, we formed the bedrock of this club when we were really shit, think you may have more in common with your SKY 1992 brethern than you think, do ya research sweetie......

Strange how that bedrock can't form it's own club :lol:

Sunderland were higher subsidised as they were making bigger losses. They brought Pickies down. They didnt have the expertise to build the warships

You can make far more matches than totem poles from a single tree, young un. Tel me about your experiences in the shipyards.

You're having a mare and you're the only one who doesn't seem to know it.

Two points......Tyneside was higher 'subsidised' as they were given more work by the government. Both rivers lacked expertise at the end........full of C&G dilutees

They couldn't give Sunderland work because they couldn't build them. When the last contract was given to someone else instead of Swan Hunter, they still had a full design team and capability. They were beaten on price

Well, that's your opinion marra but the facts are that geordies do not have a named derived from their fame for shipbuilding but Mackem's do...........that tells anyone all they need to know ...........but carry on suggesting I'm having a mare.

What really rankles is that you're conflicted because you would maintain Sunderland is a Geordie club but the reality is it's a mackem club where anyone singing Geordie songs would not be welcomed.........I can see why that stings, but to be honest it's your choice to follow Sunderland's club and you always had the option of following your own town's club

The government were sick of subsidising them and not getting the quality in return.......who can blame them

The bedrock is still there sunbeam, maybe you're embarrassed that you can't motivate more of your townsfolk to get off their arse and walk the last mile, just like in the 80's.....This is a Padrewesque fookin mare noo

You can't win that one mate, you are wrong. Illustrious, Ark Royal, Sheffield, Coventry etc pride of the fleet and I can go on. Belfast were given the major contract that finished Swans and they were massively subsidised but they didn't want the political fall out over there. You started a shipbuilding argument for some reason with the wrong person and lost. Stick to bigotry and history changing, you may be better at it.

You've taken a derogative name, and turned it around and embraced it for yourselves, congratulations.

I've never claimed Sunderland is a Geordie club... I've said that part of its history and it's foundation was built on Geordie support... Long before your newly adopted identity... When your own kinsmen considered themselves to be geordies.

And of course we don't have a name that tells of our shipbuilding history... a history of which you can rightly be proud... because we already had our own name steeped in our own proud history. You're arguing with yourself about something you have only read about from folk who want you to read their version of events instead of the concrete facts. Look at gross tonnage output, year upon year and then get back to me.
