I can't go swooning off to the Alps to prepare for the C2C, or lash out £10,000 on a new bike and designer clobber. I don't work for one of the world's largest financial institutions fleecing the common man to chip in on a matched basis to top up the charitable donations* My bike is off ebay and most my clobber is from Lidl. My training has consisted of 1 ride up the Worcestershire Alps, or the Malvern Hills, as they are also known. Why is this relevant? Last year I had a heart attack, and when my missus phoned 999, the paramedics came and said I was having a heart attack. They wanted to take me to Birmingham, a 45 minute ambulance ride away but thought it would be better if they called the Air Ambulance to speed my journey. To cut a long story short, the Air Ambulance was called, and I was whisked up to Brum where they operated on my heart, and said that, thanks to the speed with which they could operate on me, there should be no lasting damage to my heart. I was lucky. Very lucky, I realise that now. Nearly a year later, I am now planning to do the C2C with the annual SMB run-out, and I thought I would try and raise as much as I could for the Air Ambulance. They aren't just the people who frustrate us by closing the motorways from time to time, they genunely save lives, and are funded entirely by charitable donations. They receive no money from the government, and in fact are trying to get the govt to give them relief from VAT on their fuel bills as the cost increases at an alarming rate. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/29349 I have a visit to the docs on Monday, and all being well, I am hoping to be given the all clear to take on the C2C challenge. I know there are many other equally worthy causes, and would not want to detract from them, but would appreciate it if you good folks could drop in o my Justgiving page and chip in a little bit, even if it's only the price of a Wetherspoons burger and pint. I never thought I would ever need owt like this, these things always happened to other people. To be honest I still struggle to believe it happened to me, but it did. Let's see if we can keep these fantastic folks flying and doing an amazing job for all of us. Thank you.
