Good for him.
and recognition for all the good work that referees do.
Wouldn't be any forball without them.
Screw it, I'll call it bollocks first seen as no one else wants to. CBE's, MBE's and OBE's actually once used to get awarded to people for something exceptional
For services to bookmakers?
Your spot on there they are pointless awards these days
Precisely. People who work in charities or those who work for many years in public serve over and above the reqirement should be considered not the pampered and famous.
The majority of gongs go to these but this is a football forum.
What a joke, thought it was a wind up - it is the charity workers, fundraisers, surgeons who save children's lives and other people who benefit society who should get these awards not fellas like him who are right up their own Arse Holes
The man shamed English football with the worst refereeing perfromance ever seen in a World Cup final. Given Prince William's inept and wooden display at the World Cup bid it would appear that the Royal Family are on their last legs.
spot on and now Henry Winter is complaining on twitter that his linesmen should have got gongs too!
Wasn't he quoted after the Stoke game last season saying something along the lines of that the game was boring so he let a few decisions slide so it livened the match up
I was at a sportsmans lunch before Christmas where he was one of the guest speakers. He came over very well. He did let it be known that he pissed himself when it was announced that he had gotten the World Cup Final to referee.
Seems a nice enough chap and a very proud one.
MBE = Maker of Basic Errors?
So did we tbf
His performance in it demonstrated why we had pissed ourselves too
Honours go to people from all walks of life, everyone has an opinion on who should be worthy. Webb was given the world cup and champions league finals, top honours for a referee, chosen no doubt because he was considered best man for the job. He had an off game, but don't we all, he's obviously highly regarded by people who choose ref's. Wouldn't be a ref for a gold pig, me, they will never please everyone. Basically, when the honour system regognises all areas of life (albeit mostly skewed to upper classes with token poor people, but that's another story) why shouldn't a bloke who has reached the peak of his career get a bit of royal recognition? As earlier poster said, without ref's (good or bad) there'd be no football, and then where would we be?
Bloody well right.
So which bit of the criteria for the reward do you think refeering a match fits into?
In fact just found another bit from the criticism section
Well no, no it doesn't. And I have an issue with them too. Enter Steven Gerrard MBE and Sir Alex Ferguson
MBE for refereeing for 90 minutes a week, don't know what the world's coming too. SAD
It took a dam sight more than that before I got mine
Separate names with a comma.
