Going there this weekend and staying overnight. Any good bars nearby ?
Its on a retail park next to Meadowhall so if shitty restaurant/chain type bars are your thing then yes. If not get the tram/train to Sheffield and have a gander around the city centre. West Street is alright if my memory serves me right.
What he said. But if you do go into the city centre aswell as West St can always try Division street or Ecclesall Road
As Hoon says there is only a few shitty chain bars kicking around the area so it's abit wank. What you off to see there like?
If your after a few drinks afterwards just go into town, plenty of decent bars. If your going with the lads then head to West St. - if your going with the Mrs then head to Division St (runs parralel wiith West St). I'll be out and about with the Mrs on Saturday like and heading to the usual places, start in Frog and Parrot, then onto Green Room, then Bowery and then down to the Washington and then DQ. Nice
How long does it take to get into centre on tram ?
About 15minutes. But not too sure what time the tram runs from Arena/Meadowhall to City Centre. Defo during the day but later on I think they stop. Trains run from Meadowhall to Sheffield Train Station in the City Centre till about midnight like so could always go that option if tram ain't running.
Honestly there is nothing to do around the Arena at all like.
The train's handy, only took 5 minutes from the station to get to Meadowhall when I went there recently.
I'm with the Mrs, going to see George Benson Sunday night. Will get there early and go into city on late afternoon for bite to eat and a few slurps before heading back to the Arena.
If you like Real Ale Kelham Island is canny (Fat Cat). For eats Noodle Inn on London Rd is the business-though you'd probably have to book if going in the evening. There are loads of other eateries on that road if you can't get in.
Eccy Rd is good for a pub crawl-more studenty than West Street.
what he said
Like I say we're staying over and I'll give those streets a whirl.
Just follow my route as posted before on the Saturday night and you won't go wrong. The Bowery is a canny bar like.
Take no notice of the Fat Cat malarky mentioned on here, it's right out the way from the City Centre and no fucker drinks down there as there is only about 2 bars down there and it's miles away from owt else.
quality jukebox like even if it is a tad expensive
Just to clarify you mean the drinks are expensive not the jukebox as I believe it's free, or it was last time I used the thing.
Drinks are canny pricey like and it can be a nightmare getting served if its busy with people ordering cocktails. They've also stopped doing Red Stripe on tap which I'm quite disappointed about, however they still stock the cans so I'm fairly happy, and also the Mrs is happy with a bottle of Brooklyn Lager. I'd also recommend a cheeky shot of Bakewell for a quid, lush they are!
Our lasses flatmate DJs there on a Friday night like and me mate DJs in there on a Saturday, used to do a Northern Soul night (and was fairly dead) but it's more Indie now (and is packed).
All this talk of Sheffield is getting me in the mood for a Saturday night round there but I think I'm going through Cluny now in the town instead; after a quick de-tour to Sheffield on the morning to pick the Mrs up Right under the thumb I am
Best gig of me life there, and easily the best arena I've been to for atmosphere (not saying much I know), We booked a cheap room in one of the chain hotels (Travelodge, I think) not knowing how close it was and were pleasantly surprised that it was about a hundred yards away. We were gutted because the local radio station were offering free tickets to anyone who could get down there within the next fifteen minutes. We could've got there in fifteen seconds...
Went to see indoor moto x about 5 -6 years ago, marvellous entertainment, broken bones the whole lot, great night out..
