Goal kicks.

When I was a kid you had to take a goal kick on the side of the 6 yard box that the ball went out of play on.

But the goal kick can be taken from any point within the 6 yard box (goal area).

I stopped playing in about 2001 so that might explain it. I'd be totally confused by the off side rule if I had to play now.

One method is to hoy abuse at a footballer and then allow someone else to politely correct you on the rules of the game.

I found that out about a year ago when someone posted a vid from a match in the 80s. It might have been us -v- Wimbledon and I wondered why someone wasn't offside.

Some morons (being a former ref I'm very judgemental of people who don't know the laws) were shouting at Fletcher, on Saturday, to get onside when we had a goal kick. I despair sometimes, I really do!

Tranmere played for "a few seconds" doesn't mention that the lad who shouldn't have been on the pitch helped to defend the set piece we had and also, IMSC he'd just held up 4 mins injury time but blew for full time as soon as he'd realised the gaff.

Not that I'm still bitter about it...

My favourite trick was to stand about 5-10yards behind the centre half from a goal kick and you'd get a running jump on his blindside at the ball. Unfortunately I have a head shaped like a spanner so goodness knows where the ball ended up.
