He must think the world of Sam he is the first manager who has not used him as a super sub when their side are behind with 15 mins to go. All those people who thought Sam was a long ball merchant ( including me) who could only play with a big stiff arse centre forward have been proved wrong. He is a far better manager than I ever thought. The way he set up his side to play with Defoe as centre forward this season was outstanding management and coaching.

The tangible improvement in our team and the individuals is remarkable. His ability to spot where we needed to strengthen and get the right players in was excellent. His ability to galvanise the team and create a team spirit not seen since Reidy was in charge is commendable. His use of sports science belies his reputation and most of all, the fact that he takes no shit from time wasters and deals with them swiftly is refreshing.

I will be gutted if he gets the England job.
