Seriously? Based on Bridcutt not being able to find one of his own colleagues when passing the ball for a start. If our under 21s Smith and co cannot better that, then shut the academy now. I've said all along Poyets boring tactics wont be the end of him, it will be his reluctance to swallow his pride and give youth a chance instead of the poor signings he persists with.

Watching the reserves a couple of times suggests that Smith is nowhere near good enough to make the step up yet.

On a related note , do we have any 17, 18 yr olds that look like they could 'be a player'? (Dont know much about youth teams ).

You kinda assume we never do cos no one ever gets near squad
Other clubs often throw 16, 17 yr old 'starlets' on the bench but with safc it seems like theres this rule they have to reach 20 before the manager (at the time) gives them a debut then sends them to league 2 on loan
Aye I wonder who the new Laing , Egan and Knott are

A keeper released by sunderland, that the mags picked up straight away is in the same squad as that wright too. Surely questions have got to be asked?

Probably not as many as Boro do. They just gave our youngsters a right thrashing.

Used to be great watching young lads come into the first team but happens so rarely with us now..Henderson and Ginger are the only two i can recall in recent memory. Sad really..you'd think given how much you have to pay in transfers and wages for established players and how much we have bleated on about the academy it would be ano brainer to make that a priority.

Yes, exactly the reason for Congerton. People seem to think he's little more than chief scout. A key objective of his role will be to ensure more youngsters coming through.
