Collapse of the Pyramid System

League Cricket Conference rules, as well as the individual rule books of all of the leagues (including the DSL) state that for a club to join another league they must resign from the league they are currently playing in by 30 June in the season before they move.

As the DSL knacked the promotion/relegation system this year by refusing to relegate a team, neither Boldon or Seaham Harbour were promoted "officially" and so both needed to resign from the DCCL by 30 June 2011 to be able to join the DSL for 2012. Neither did - the Harbour sent a letter of resignation in a couple of weeks ago (after being accepted by the DSL - again against the rules) and Boldon CA still havent sent a letter in. The DCCL have rejected the Harbour's letter of resignation as is their right under the rules, and they will reject any such letter from Boldon CA if they eventually decide to send one in.

Both clubs will play in the DCCL next season and will be named on the DCCL fixture list as per the rule book. If they do not turn up for games (ie play in the Senior League against the rules) they will be fined for each unfulfilled fixture (including 1st, 2nd 3rd teams and juniors this will amount to about £1000 per month). In addition, the Senior League representative teams will be banned from all inter-league competitions and any junior player registered to a Durham Senior League club will be considered ineligible to represent Durham. The Durham County Board have confirmed that this will be enforced, apparently they are as p1ssed off with the DSL as anyone.

I don't think the clubs decided to sign the 3 year agreement - it was decided to f*ck the Senior League off and wait to hear the proposals for NEPL Div 2 next year. It may well be that the top 5 or 6 Senior League clubs apply for that in which case the remaining half dozen will be left trying to find new leagues themselves - they'll have the DCCL, DCL and NEDL to choose from (although I assume that Norton and Maybe Castle Eden might try and get into the NYSD system.

It's all very interesting - but the bottom ine is that the DSL top clubs have pushed everyone into a difficult position with their blatant self-preservation in disregarding the pyramid system.

Good post - it's going to be interesting to see what transpires in the DSL as this will have a knock on effect into the coast league and beyond as if teams leave the coast league will they in turn will be looking to the North East Durham league for teams to make up the shortfall. Where this will leave the NEDL is anyones guess!!

I'd imagine that they would be looking to get into the NEPL2 if that does happen

DSL in the echo today still seeking clubs to joined for season 2012 with a timetable of oct.31st for applications! what is the county board doing to stop this from happening?

Canny article in the echo about it today. Coast league saying the senior league broken league cricket conference rules. Senior league arguing they haven't. This is going to rumble on for a while yet.

the county will exile them, meaning all clubs will have to go alone, insurance will then be more expensive and they won't be able to get any ecb funding and lose other perks. The DCL won't be a recognised league in the ecb eyes either so no league teams submitted into cups nor recognition given.

That is really all the county can do so if clubs want to be in a league with no promotion or demotion against the set clubs for the foreseeable future then really its upto the individual clubs to take a risk the only problem being if it goes tits up they will have to start at the bottom again. Each club needs to do whats best for themselves are unfortuantley that means fuck the rest.

they have broken rules by not demoting teams that have finished bottom but still let other teams to be promoted. By putting this ad out they will then be promoting teams who haven't won their respective leagues in order to be up for promotion. Rightly or Wrongly they are doing what they feel is right for their league hopefully no of the other leagues doesn't suffer as a result but it does look that way.

Decent post that Ed

Mates just text me to say that at the County League meeting tonight the clubs have voted in favour of accepting Marsdens resignation so they will play in the Senior League in 2012,dont know where that leaves the Coast League clubs but i was just wondering if that will open the door for more clubs to leave

Does the above post mean the County League will now only contain 9 teams?! A 16 game season is very short!

Not sure mate thats Etherley and Marsden gone so i think it will leave 10 clubs, just like the Senior league have done its going to be a case of advertising and see if anyone fancies it

there is a meeting in the next day or two with the county board and representitives of all the leagues in the county exept the senior league to discuss the way forward and what to do about the DSL

In theory if a second division of the premier league starts who do people think will join up??.Potentially all four leagues DSL,DCCL,DCL,NTSL. could all be hit and if so what will happen to the clubs who are left?? will everyone remain in there league and play each other maybe three times or will the county ask for a restructuring of north east cricket

Would a league like the North East Durham League lose teams to the leagues above??

I don't quite understand the purose of a NEPL div 2 being added to the Pyramid System when the DSL leaves as there won't be enough teams to go around meaning one league would lose out in the process

the nepl i think need to have promotion and relegation for them to qualify for funding from the ECB, which is the reason they now want a NEPL2 - to safeguard themselves and cash from the ECB.

Not sure depends on how clubs want to approach there cricket, some clubs just want to play cricket for the crack others want to progress into a higher standard,so it would depend on what clubs like Coundon,Whiteleas,East Rainton want to do really. If there happy where they are then the leagues below the Premier could all end up with a lot less than 12

Coundon don't want to play in the Coast league and as East Rainton are the founding member of the league and they don't either so there is two of the three teams mentioned who wouldn't want to go to another league.

Each club will take a view - Whiteleas for example are supposedly very keen to get into the Coast League.

There are 101 questions to be answered about the future of cricket in Durham. It's going to be a very interesting couple of years whilst this all pans out.

missed whiteleas off as like you said are keen to progress however atm they don't have a 3rd team and according to a club member have been struggling for players to play in the 2nds. I think leagues may also have to change rules to accomdate teams and there is no doubt each club will take a view as they will all want whats best for their respective club.
